Yoko Ono, Summer Dream (Let your dream come true on a distant wall), 2012/2015

Ponticlaro collaborated with Chief Curator Heather Pesanti and The Contemporary Austin on a Yoko Ono artwork. Ponticlaro built an iPad app located inside Laguna Gloria’s villa, that accepts visitor’s dreams through text input, allowing each of these dreams to scroll across the large outdoor LED message board. Yoko Ono’s art often includes an instruction on a card, like Summer Dream, which is to be performed through varying actions, methods, and participants.

In this instance of the work, messages were collected digitally and then displayed in a continuous loop on a large outdoor message board.

Yoko Ono’s Summer Dream work was part of The Contemporary Austin’s exhibition Strange Pilgrims. The 2012 in the title refers to the version of the artwork created by a different team in 2012 for Moderna Museet in Sweden.

Ponticlaro developed custom software and hardware to accomplish Heather Pesanti’s wonderful installation of this artwork, and designed a local network for the iPad to communicate with the message board’s server, in order to store and display dreams.
